Pears & Figs Poached In Spiced Red Wine with Late Harvest Zinfandel

Ingredients:
12 dried figs
2  cups Saucelito Canyon Zinfandel
1  cup water
¼ cup sugar
2 3-inch strips lemon zest
1 cinnamon stick
4 peppercorns   (star anise or pink peppercorns may be substituted)
3 cloves
4 pears, peeled, cut in half, and cored

In a medium stainless steel saucepan, combine figs, wine, water, sugar lemon, cinnamon, peppercorns & cloves. Bring to simmer over moderately high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, partially covered for 5 minutes.
Add the pears and bring back to a simmer over moderately high heat and simmer until pears are tender, 10-12 minutes. Transfer fruit and poaching liquid to a medium glass or stainless steel bowl. Let cool and then chill.
